(a) Mr. YAUNG Siu-wah, a Shatin District Board member and

a Mutual Aid Committee Chairman

(e)

Being a Christian himself, he feels strongly against the 'an-eye-for-an-eye' theory. In the present case, the. thinks 30 years of imprisonment would probably be enough for the offence committed.

Mr. HO Ting-ying, a neighbour of the victim and a MAC Chairman of Wo Che Estate

Although Mr. Ho does not personally know the victim, he comments that crimes should better be prevented by way of more effective education than through the imposition of the death sentence on the offenders.

Feedback seems to indicate that public feeling towards this case is still strong. Interest is not merely confined to the families of the prisoner and victim, but appears to be shared by the local community. Generally speaking, a dominant number of respondents tend to accept the idea that a suitable term of imprisonment can be a good substitute for the death sentence in unpremeditated or excusable cases.
