The petitioner made his way to the roof and there once again threatened to commit suicide by throwing himself off. Police and friends who had arrived in response to calls for help eventually persuaded him to come down.

In his cautioned statement, the petitioner stated he had acted in self-defence. When charged he stated that he had not
meant to hurt the deceased and had acted in an emotional outburst.
