by the Colonial Secretary, J H Stewart Lockhart, and the Chinese Commissioner Wong Tsun Shin in March 1899. This agreement, together with a map, was enclosed with Sir H Blake's despatch of 24 March 1899 to the Secretary of State for the Colonies (reference C0882/66 page 131-3). On 13 June 1899 the Secretary of State directed that the boundary already delimited (ie evidently that agreed bet- ween Lockhart and Wong) would be the future boundary. This agreement and map thus appear to be the authoritative doc- uments delimiting the land boundary between the New Territories and China.

Subsequently there were some complications arising from British claims to the foreshores on Deep Bay and Mirs Bay. Surveys of the New Territories were carried out by British officials, but as far as I have been able to trace these did not affect the boundaries nor were any further joint surveys conducted. (The limits of Hong Kong's territorial waters had already been specified in the map attached to the 1898 Convention.)
