The Education Action Group supported Ms. Christine Vertucci's appeal against the Hong Kong Immigration Department's refusal to extend her employment visa and its order to leave Hong Kong.

Although the Education Action Group concentrates chiefly on educa- tion deficiencies, our members protest about injustice in many fields just as Ms. Vertucci has done. We are convinced that being a responsible member of society requires such action.

Occasionally, Government officials even urge citizens to work to alleviate social problems. Therefore, EAG fails to understand why a person who tries to be a responsible citizen concerned about injustice in Hong Kong is punished by expulsion while ones who simply concentrate on earning money and ignore social problems are allowed to stay indefinitely.

We assume the Immigration Department's treatment of Ms. Vertucci is to provide an example of what may happen to those who become involved in pressure groups. EAG firmly believes this is useless and, in fact, thankfully encourages additional people to see injustice more clearly and compels those already involved to work even harder.

Sincerely,

Anthony Ha
