I am writing with regard to the case of Christine Vertucci, an

American social worker who
to
has been told that her employment visa will not be renewed and that she must leave the colony immediately. In consequence she has now left Hong Kong and come London. I understand that no explanation whatsoever has been given for the refusal to extend Ms Vertucci' S visa beyond a very brief reference to the effect that this is not due toher involvement in Hong Kong's domestic social affairs. If this is not due to Hong Kong's domestic social affairs it would be I think important for Members of Parliament in Britain to know what the real reasons were. The position seems very unsatisfactory in civil liberties terms and surely Ms Vertucci is at the very least entitled to know what the grounds of the refusal were so that she is able to protest against them and to make her case in Court should the matter end up there. I should be grateful for a reply stating why this decision has been made.
