SECTION 3 (4) OF THE PUBLIC RECORDS ACT 1958
There is no right of appeal to an independent adjudicator
or tribunal where the application to the Home Office for an
extension is made after the expiry date of the person's per-
mission to stay.
5.
After refusal of his appeal the person is required to leave
the UK. The Home Office stipulate a date for his departure which
normally allows him a short period of grace to settle his affairs.
If he does not leave by the due date a deportation order signed
by the Home Secretary is served on him. He is usually detained.
pending deportation.

Journalists. Work permits are not required by
representatives of overseas newspapers, news agencies and
broadcasting organisations, on long-term assignments in the
UK.
But they must have an appropriate entry clearance issued by
one of our overseas missions prior to arrival. (Journalists
coming to work on domestic papers, magazines, TV, etc would
require work permits in the normal way).
