2nd. February 1982

Dear Sir,

I am very distressed to hear that Ms. Christine Vertucci, co-director of the Asia Monitor Resource Centre, has been refused an extension of her employment visa for Hong Kong. Friends whom I hold in very high regard and whose integrity I respect have assured me that the work Christine has been involved in is of a highly humanitarian and Christian nature. That is why I find it difficult to understand why Christine's employment visa has been refused renewal and no reason given for the refusal.

I had the great joy of a few days in Hong Kong last September. I was greatly struck by the beauty of the islands. Since then I have been urging various friends to visit Hong Kong. I am hoping that this incident of Christine's visa is merely an administrative error. I would be deeply disturbed to think that there was any victimisation or denial of human rights taking place with regard to Christine Vertucci.

May I ask you to do all in your power to ensure that Christine's appeal is given a sympathetic hearing and that she is granted an extension of her employment visa.

Yours sincerely,

Kevin T. Kelly (Rev.) D.D., L.C.L. (Parish Priest and Rural Dean)
