Ms Christine Vertucci

I refer to your letter of 27 January 1932 concerning Ms Vertucci. We do not normally comment on individual cases. But as you seem to have been given inaccurate information, it would be in the interest of all concerned to put the record right.

Ms Vertucci is not being expelled from Hong Kong. Her permitted period of stay expires on 5 February 1982 and so she is required to leave by then. It is not the practice to give reasons for not extending periods of stay.

Under the Immigration Ordinance of Hong Kong, Ms Vertucci is entitled to appeal against the decision to the Governor-in-Council. In the event of her appealing, she will be allowed to remain until the appeal has been considered.

It is kind of you to remorber Chinese New Year but our office has been open and in operation, as normal, throughtout the festive period.

Yours sincerely
