2. Following the Prime Minister's visit to Hong Kong, the question of nomenclature in the passports of British Dependent Territory Citizens has been carefully considered by the Secretary of State and the Home Secretary. They recommended, and the Prime Minister agreed, that the word 'British' should be. inserted opposite the printed words 'national status' in all BDTC passports, followed by 'British Dependent Territory citizen' and the name of the territory.

3. This was announced by the Chief Secretary in the Legislative Council of Hong Kong on 24 November. It will come into effect on

1 January 1983, or when stocks of existing passports run out.
