BNA 1981: ACQUISITION OF BRITISH DEPENDENT TERRITORIES CITIZENSHIP BY ADOPTION
1.
Provision is made under S.15(5) of the BNA 1981 for a
see
minor who is not a British Dependent Territories citizen (BDTC to become such a citizen if he or she is made subject of an adoption order made by a court in a dependent territory if the adopter is at the time a BDTC.
2. We now need to establish, if necessary by referring to Governors, in which dependent territories adoption by court order is available. It would assist us greatly if you would let us know the position in respect of the territory/territories for which your department is responsible and where appropriate provide details of the relevant piece of local legislation.
