Departure Group (a)
The account of this group's voyage from Haiphong to Cam Pha is unconvincing, as is the description of the journey from Cam Pha to Zhanjiang which it is claimed took nearly three months. Only when dealing with their departures from Zhanjiang and their voyages to Hong Kong does therĕfuƒêès' story become cohesive and credible.
2.
PHAM BA NGOC admits that he was appointed as 'boatmaster' by the Chinese authorities. PHAM is reported to have been on friendly terms with an overseas Chinese resident in Zhanjiang and with the Chinese officials at the Overseas Chinese hostel. Several members of the group, including
PHAM, have a good knowledge of Cantonese. Only PHAM was able to pass the 'Vietnamese Knowledge' Test. None of the group admits to having been resettled on Overseas Chinese farms, of which there are several in the area.
3.
It is considered that all the members of this group are suspect ECVIIS. The group was probably formed in Zhanjiang from persons who had been living in the Overseas Chinese hostel and possibly contains ECVIIs from overseas Chinese farms.
