2 females who became "involved" with crew of M.V.Euney whilst in dock. Both worked in HCM docks, and embarked upon an

'economic adventure'. One was under the impression

that one of the crew members would marry her.

religion, the other seeking freedom to pursue an academic lifestyle (he was a postgraduate student). Both felt they would have left Vietnam regardless of other government's policies.

1 former S.Vietnamese official seeking political asylum.2 seeking improved economic opportunities. 2 "economic” refugees largely motivated by letters from friends and relatives. Neither listened to VOA/BBC. All 3 would have stayed in Vietnam if they thought there was no chance for resettlement or a possibility of repatriation. The former Govt.officer's claimed he would have joined another group consisting of only former government servants in the future.
