The estimated total offtake for the forthcoming 5 months would be 3,175 (1,400 for March, 800 for April, 300 for May, 350 for June and 325 for July). This figure also includes about 250 direct offtake to Bataan per month and 500 additional offtake to cater for IESL graduates who will depart in April or soon after.
A quota of 1,000 has been allotted to Hong Kong and Macao for the year 1982 and it is anticipated that there would be an average of 80 offtake per month up to May and 70 per month from June onwards. So far, 247 places of the quota have been filled.
To date, 10,984 refugees have departed for UK and 16 are awaiting departure. It is expected that the remainder will depart for UK shortly.
From 1.1.81 - 2.82, 542 refugees have left for Australia. Since there is no fixed quota for Hong Kong, it is hoped that the offtake for the forthcoming months would be approximately 25 per month.
According to UNHCR, the offtake for France is about 20 per month.
Of this figure, 216 are boat rescue cases pending resettlement to the flag countries in the next few months as follows:
