In July 1979, the Government of the United Kingdom and the Government of the People's Republic of China concluded an Air Services Agreement (ASA) and two Confidential Memoranda of Understanding (CMU) concerning air services on the trunk route (TR) London to Peking and the regional routes (RR) Hong Kong to points in China (footnotel).

The services at present permitted are basically Ste
in the two CMUS:
(a)
TR CMU
(i)
BA to fly 2 x B747, limited to a total of 300 seats a week, over Hong Kong with only own stopover rights (footnote 2).on these services in Hong Kong. Hong Kong is a point on the route "for the time being".
(ii) CAAC to fly 2 x B747 or 2 x B707
limited to a total of 300 seats a week.

all references to routes for flights between two points include services in both directions. Thus references to flights between Hong Kong and Shanghai include flights from Shanghai to Hong Kong.
"own stopover rights" means that the airline may carry only its own passengers originating from other points. Thus BA may only carry from Hong Kong to Peking its
passengers originating in London.
