paragraphs of the letter in our Telegram 214 need no
amendment beyond a reference to the Chinese note of
2 June in the first sentence. Paragraphs 3 and 4 might
then be replaced by the following text

We look forward to the resolution of
this matter as soon as possible and I should
therefore like to take this opportunity to
confirm the invitation I extended to you
at our meeting in March to resume our
discussions in London in the early Autumn.
For this purpose I would propose the week
commencing 18 October, and should be pleased
to learn shortly whether this would be
convenient to you and your colleagues.
4 Meanwhile, since we have no wish to
inconvenience passengers during the summer
season I have arranged for CAAC's permits for
services to Tianjin and Nanjing to be extended
