We spoke about the short piece on this subject in the Dateline of 16 July, and I expressed our concern at its implication, that the Hong Kong Government would be taking a decision on a replacement airport at Chek Lep Kok in early 1983. While we accept that the existence of the feasibility study on Chek Lep Kok is no secret, we would not wish to give the impression that a decision will be taken at any particular time, nor has it been publicly stated in Hong Kong that Chek Lep Kok is the only location under consideration.
This is only a small point, but quite a sensitive one at present. I would be grateful if you could ensure that any further reports on this subject are less specifically worded.
