1. I was a bit cross to see in the GIST of 18 May that Francis Chaine, in referring to the Reform Club's visit to the UK, had not only quoted me but done so quite inaccurately.

2. As I reported in FCO telegram number 281 we agreed specifically at the time that the contents of our discussions should not be revealed to the press. I don't suppose that the subject is likely to come up but if you did get an opportunity and judged it appropriate it would be very helpful if you could mention it to Chaine. The point of course is that this sort of action makes it pretty difficult for officials to talk frankly to people like him, which is a pity.
