Private Office had no comments of substance on the draft record of the Secretary of State's meeting with Sir M MacLehose and Sir E Youde. However they would prefer that a formal record should not be issued since they regard the meeting as mainly a briefing for the Secretary of State. They have no objection, however, to a summary going in letter form. I suggest that the best solution is for you to send two teleletters, one a reply to the points which Sir P Cradock has raised over the past month and the other a description of the meeting. Drafts are attached. FED concur.
