Differences:
a) New Territories Lease deadline;
b) People of Hong Kong not attached to
British sovereignty. They want a prag- matic separate administration.
(But
will have noted HMG's positive response
to the invasion)
At same time need movement in Hong Kong to avoid
boxing HMG into situation where Falklands
style situation might arise (with no practical possibility of comparable counteraction).
