comments which have been made in the past either by the Attorney- General himself or, less authoritatively, by me.

Perhaps the most sensible course is to wait until I have had a chance to study the missing paper. If that does suggest some useful comments to me, I shall of course make them: if not, I shall tell

you so. If, in any event, there are specific aspects of the papers that you have already sent me on which you would welcome my comments, please tell me and I shall do my best to respond. If you think that it would be helpful for me to join in any discussion of the problem, I should willingly do so. But I do not want to poach on Fred Burrows's territory not, I am sure, that he would take offence and I suspect that it might make more sense for me to hold back until you have refined your own thinking and I can then sensibly address myself to the specific questions on which Ministers are likely to be coming to the Attorney-General for advice.
