ANNEX C

(immediate cession of territory)

The Governments of the PRC and of the UK have agreed

as follows:

a) in recognition of the fact that Hong Kong is

historically part of China, the Government of

the UK will cease to regard Hong Kong as under

the territorial sovereignty of the UK;

b) the UK will however continue to administer Hong

Kong (including the New Territories) as hitherto

for so long as this agreement remains in force;

c) this agreement is subject to ratification and

will come into force [six months] after instruments

of ratification have been exchanged;

d) this agreement will continue in force for [fifty

years] and indefinitely thereafter until such

time as it is determined by at least fifteen

years' notice given by either party;

e) upon the determination of this agreement the

Government of the PRC will assume the adminis-

tration of Hong Kong in accordance with such

arrangements as may have been agreed between

that Government and the Government of the UK.
