Remarkable engineering and construction work. The mountain was literally sliced in half and 121⁄2 million cubic yards of rock excavated. Transmission line
successfully completed despite weather conditions and difficult terrain, with 95% of the towers requiring helicopter access for construction.

The City of London merchant bankers J Henry Schroder Wagg masterminded the financial side of the project. The loan for the generating capacity was the biggest ever guaranteed by Export Credits Guarantee Department.
13. UK's experience in coal-fired power technology enabled us to offer CLP the complete range of engineering skills from civil consultancy, through the design stage and the provision of hardware to commissioning and operating expertise.
14. The financing arranged for the project had shown that the UK can offer government and commercial loans on intemationally competitive terms.
