TALKING POINTS FOR THE PRIME MINISTER ON THE CASTLE PEAK 'A' AND 'B' POWER STATIONS:

1. Lord Kadoorie's approach provided ideal opportunity for British Government and industry to work together on the project which will make a major contribu- tion to the continued expansion and development of Hong Kong.

Greatly appreciate the confidence and support of CLP and the Exxon Corpora-

tion in the efforts they have made to strengthen the UK's industrial links

with Hong Kong.

Most gratified to repeat the venture for the sister station - Castle Peak

Level of involvement of UK companies is in excess of £1,000 million - greatly

valued by the UK Government.

Pleased to hear that the performance of UK companies has met expectations and that progress on the 'A' station has more than met initial hopes; ie commis- sioning of the first unit in record time. Successfully delivered power only

three years eight months after work commenced.

Excellent working relationship has been established between CLP and the UK

companies involved. This relationship has enabled any problems that have arisen during construction to be resolved quickly and satisfactorily.

7. GEC as lead contractor and supplier of the turbine generators has made a major contribution to the success of the project.

8. Babcock Power have been the leading sub-contractor with responsibility for the boilers and coal handling equipment.

9.

Numerous other contractors and consultants both from the UK and Hong Kong, have all contributed in their own way to the success of this project.

British Electricity International (BEI) the overseas consultancy arm of the Central Electricity Generating Board have provided comprehensive consultancy and

support services.
