Nationality Act

It was noted that UMELCO considered that

Hong Kong's feelings were not given due

weight by the UK and would like to seek last

minute amendments to have "British Nationals"

stamped on Hong Kong passports (but without

right of abode). UMELCO would press for this

when they met the LPS. It was considered that

the LPS should give a firm reply to UMELCO

if it was considered that there was no possibility

of any such amendment being made, but assurance

should be given that UK would do its best to ensure

that obligations to Hong Kong passport holders

would be met by visiting third countries.

Mr. Jopling then referred to a letter he had

received from the Urban Council on the question

of the need for Hong Kong travellers to obtain

visas to enter Germany.
