Government Chief Whip (Rt. Honourable Michael Jopling) at Government House on Friday 8th January 1982

The meeting opened with CS in the chair and the
Rt. Honourable Michael Jopling, FS, SHA, SCNTA, PA, S for S,
good.

Mr. Jopling gave a brief account of his visit in
Hong Kong. His impression was most favourable and he was
especially impressed with the pace of development.

CS and FS gave a broad analysis of
Hong Kong's economic and financial
development in the past 10 years
and the outlook for the future.
They pointed out that Hong Kong's
emergence as a financial centre
was beneficial to all concerned
and was complementing rather than
competing against other major
world financial centres.
