APPENDIX 7
ACCOMMODATION IN NICOSIA (D.19)
Memorandum by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office
Offices
All but one of the sections of the High Commission are still housed in the collec- tion of buildings in Alexander Pallis Street. The exception is the newly created Property and Interests Section which is in the Charalambides building in Grivas Dighenis Avenue. This is held on a monthly lease. The long-term lease on the buildings in Alexander Pallis Street was recently renewed and is due to expire in 1980 but there is provision for breaks in our favour each year starting from 1977.
Residential Accommodation
The present Residence, the old Residence and seven other units of accommodation are owned. There are thirteen furnished hirings, the leases of which are signed by the occupant. Of the twenty-three hirings for which the lease is in the name of the Post, fifteen are furnished by the Department of the Environment and eight are empty having been vacated during the fighting in 1974. The High Commission pays no rent for the latter.
A list of properties is attached.
