(Mr Checketts) We work with the BBC; whether we have actually
asked them to convey this very message in so many words, I do not know.
I cannot remember that we have.
Mr Cockeran
193. Surely actions speak louder than words and when you have
completed a contract on time, to specification, that is a news item and
publicity for that is much better than leaflets or other things.
Do the BBC overseas services support you on that?
(Mr Checketts) Yes. I have omitted to mention one strong
activity of SEATAG which is the SHATAG Journal, published quarterly,
and it is for that purpose: to publicise successes. They are very well
written up in that journal so there is a leaflet and there is a means
of conveying this message. We do it through our SEATAG Journal.
Chairman
194. Would you let us have a copy of the leaflet, if you have one?
(Mr Checketts With great pleasure.
Mr. Foster
195.
Could I ask Mr Checketts whether he sees any sign of another
thing that we saw on our trip to the Far East and I apologise for
continually referring to that visit. We learned from British
businessmen that too few British companies took their market seriously;
they really did not bother to put top level exporters out there.
They did not have offices which were properly staffed and properly manned
and they did not really look at the long-term developments. Is this true
about the countries that we are discussing this morning?
