I should be grateful for your help in providing briefing for both occasions. (The occasions, and the type of briefing that Mr Luce will require for each, are of course different. This single commissioning minute has been designed against the possibility that it might help some departments to consider both tasks together.)
Lunch with the Commonwealth Secretary-General

Mr Luce's lunch with the Commonwealth Secretary-General will provide a useful opportunity to discuss matters of Commonwealth con- cern with Mr Ramphal who, following his failure to succeed Dr Waldheim as UN Secretary-General, will now be with us as Common- wealth Secretary General until the expiry of his current (second) term in mid-1985. The lunch will be attended by Mr Ramphal's two deputies (Mr Anyaoku and Mr Small) and his Executive Assistant (Mr Mark Robinson), as well as Sir L Allinson, the Head of CCD and PS/Mr Luce. A wide range of subjects could come up for discussion. Subject to departments' views, the most likely would seem to be:
