Dear Miss Kelley,
1. Further to our recent telephone conversation I confirm that the Hong Kong Government are interested in attending the World Assembly on Ageing (WAA) to be held in Vienna in July/August this year.
2.
The Hong Kong Government frequently take part in similar meetings in their own right and my authorities would certainly have no objection to their attending the WAA. Indeed the Hong Kong Government participated, at the invitation of the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), in the Regional Intergovernmental Preparatory Meeting for the WAA held in Manila in October last year.
3. You confirmed that the second session of the Advisory Committee had agreed the provisional agenda for the WAA and that invitations to attend the WAA would shortly be sent to governments by the Secretary General I should be grateful if you would arrange for an invitation to be sent to the Hong Kong Government.
4. The Hong Kong Government would also be interested in seeing background papers relevant to the WAA. Could you please add them to your distribution list? Their address is :
