1
To take this opportunity of establishing a good working
relationship with the new Federal Government and of assuring
the German side of our firm commitment to strengthening
and deepening Anglo-German relations, while continuing
to acknowledge the importance of the London-Paris and
Bonn-Paris relationships.
2. To impress on the new German Government the UK's
determination to play its full part in shaping the future of
the Community, while emphasising the pivotal importance of
a fair and lasting solution to the UK Budget problem.
3.
To impress on the new German team that we share their
concern about the present state of transatlantic relations
and to express our interest in strengthening ties with
Washington.
4. To sound out the new Government's thinking on East/West
relations and to explain our own views.
5. To reaffirm our commitment, through the stationing of British forces in Germany, and our acceptance of INF, to the defence of Europe in spite of budgetary constraints and the stretching of our resources caused by the Falklands conflict; to secure renewed recognition from a new German Government of the value to them of our contribution; and to seek their views on the prospects for INF in the FRG.
6.
To explain British policy on the Falklands and to seek German diplomatic support at the UNGA.
