1. In view of the likely interest in the status of Macau as discussions on the future of Hong Kong get under way, I have drafted a short paper on the territory which I hope will be issued as a Research Department Note. It is an expanded and updated version of Mr Walker's note of July 1981 and an earlier FED paper. It is rather short on economic data. would be useful if Hong Kong could supply any additional figures, and details of transport links which they may have, or could get from JSISHK. Perhaps Hong Kong could also expand on paragraphs 14 and 16 on illegal immigration.
