Congrulation for the British success over the Falkland Islands.

I wish this would bring long-term peace to the South Atlantic so that the blood of the courageous British military has not been wasted.

The government always emphasizes that the decision of the islanders

is paramount and free people has the right to choose his own way of life. So, I am wondering would this be applied to the decision about the Hong Kong's future in the 1997 lease problem.

If you think the emphasis does apply, how much you would take into con- sideration when you are making the decision? If not, what major differences between Hong Kong and the Falkland Islands which make you thinking that the emphasis would not be applied. I personally think they are basically similar in nature although we can not see

any military aggression there.

If the government happens to think that this problem is too early to talk about, may I draw the attention to the social and economical consequences of late decision.

Last but not the least, being a citizen of Hong Kong, I would like to take this opportunity to convey the appreciation and thankfulness from all the citizens to the British government for the years governing and advising which brought up the society today. For the benefits of the people concerning, I wish this friendly co-operation could continue neglecting any possible changes in 1997.

Thank you very much for your kindest attention,

Yours sincerely,

C.M. Jain
