In his minute of 5 July to the Prime Minister the Secretary of State for Defence asks which representatives from out. other countries should be invited to the Service of Thanksgiving.

I recommend that invitations should be sent to the

representatives of those countries which applied economic sanctions against Argentina, with the exception of Ireland; f to the representative of Nepal, because of the participation allowin

of the Gurkhas; to the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth;

and to the representatives in London of the European Commsision the Government of Hong Kong and the Cayman Islands. I submit

a draft minute for the Secretary of State to send to Mr Nott.

Background

A Service of Thanksgiving and Remembrance will be held in St Paul's Cathedral at 11 am on Monday 26 July. The Defence Secretary proposes to allocate up to 100 seats for representatives from foreign countries, including wives. This is about half the number that we might expect to need if the whole Corps were invited.
