Hong Kong Sailors în the Falklands Area
Please find enclosed a letter dated 6th May to the Prime Minister from a group of Hong Kong residents with relations serving in Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships now operating in the area of the Falklands (Annex A). A covering note to Sir Murray MacLehose, asking him to pass the letter to the PM on his return to England, has been acknowledged (Annex B).
I discussed the letter with Mr. Peter Webb, the Assistant Political Adviser, and we decided that the best way to handle it would be for
a draft to be prepared in Hong Kong and then sent to FCO, so that you could finalise a formal reply from England.
The Captain-in-Charge, Hong Kong, has prepared a draft which I endorse (Annex C).
I should be very grateful if you would now take the matter on.
