Similarities and differences between Falkland Islands and Hong Kong
Liu Jia-ju : There are a lot of differences. For instance,
sovereignty over Hong Kong is undisputed but sovereignty over
the Falklands is a long-standing controversial issue. And
most of the residents of the Falklands are British while those
in Hong Kong are not. One thing in common is that both places
are under British rule.

Although there are a lot of differences between

Falklands issue, the problem of Hong Kong is not a local one
or related to Britain alone, but is an international issue. The
Falklands incident demonstrates that the long-standing sovereignty
problem can be escalated and needs to be resolved at international
level.

would think of the Hong Kong problem as an international issue,
not even Britain herself. It is essentially a question to be
