Transport Links with China

Purpose
To examine and advise on the patterns associated with an increase in transport links with China, reporting ulitmately to the Hong Kong-China Economic Development Committee.
Progress Made & Present Position
(a)
Reconstituted working groups hold regular meetings.
(b) Land has been resumed at Man Kam To for expanded processing facilities. Site formation is to start in late
October.
(c) NCNA advise that companies on the
shortlist wishing to operate coach services to China are not approved by the Guangdong provincial authority.
(d) The Motor Transport Company of
The
Guangdong and Hong Kong now operate 10 scheduled services daily and up to 9 daily chartered services. reprovisioning of the coach terminus is being considered.
(e) Several joint working parties
comprising representatives of the
Hong Kong Government and the Shenzhen authorities have been set up to consider various issues of joint interest i.e. borûer crossing arrangements including Lowu Station, second bridge at Man Kam To, bridges at Lok Ma Chau and Sha Tau Kok. Agreement has been reached on all three bridge alignments.
