Future Review of Parking Policy

To re-formulate parking policy consistent with the proposals in the White Paper on Internal Transport Policy, and with ExCo's views as expressed in 1981.
Progress Made & Present Position
(c) A review of taxi numbers is required
in December. Recommendations by TFCC are to be submitted to TAC and ExCo in November and December respectively.

The Governor-in-Council has accepted that taxis should be introduced on Lantau and a Bill to give effect to this had its first reading in LegCo in October and will be given its second reading in November.

ExCo on 3.8.82 approved a programme for sale of private sector sites a total of 24 in the first instance for multi-storey car park development. Transport Department is holding preliminary discussions with a number of companies interested in taking over the management of Government car parks, The feasibility of the private sector building park-and-ride car parks is being re-examined. SLW is reviewing parking standards for private residential develop- ment and Lands and Works Conference and LDPC papers have been prepared. ExCo will be advised of the review within 3 months.
