Marine Fish
Culture Ordinance
To regulate the mariculture industry
★
(a) Gazetted fish culture
zones are being demarcated. The operation is expected to last till the end of the
year.
(b) Applications for fish
culture licences are being processed by the Agriculture and Fisheries Department.
(c) In view of practical
difficulties of following the procedures laid down in the law (e.g. the requirement to store rafts, fish etc seized in the clearance over a period of 14 days), consideration is being given to amending the Regulations to simplify the clearance procedure.
(2) Strong representations were
received from fishermen's organisations and district boards for the designation of more fish culture zones, especially in the western part of Hong Kong waters, to accommodate existing mariculture operations in the region. Director of Agriculture and Fisheries is considering the suitability of the proposed areas for mariculture activities.
To complete demarcation of the 24 gazetted fish culture zones.
To arrange for the balloting of sites in fish culture zon es.
To seek ExCo's a lvice on proposed amen iments to the Marine Fish Culture Regulations.
To seek ExCo's approval for the designation of more fish culture
zones.
