1st November 1981 to 31st January 1982

LANDS DIVISION

Subject

5. Review of the

Streets (Alter- ation) Ordinance

LW CR 9/3220/81

Purpose

On 20th October 1981 following consideration of memorandum

XCC(81)115 (Gloucester Road flyover) the Governor in Council ordered that the Attorney General should proceed urgently to con- sider possible amendments to the Streets (Alteration) Ordinance. A Working Group was subsequently set up under the chairmanship of the AG.

Progress Made & Present Position

In view of the defects and deficiencies of the Streets (Alteration) Ordinance the Work- ing Group concluded that the only sensible course of action was to draft afresh a comprehen- sive code relating to roadworks. A bill entitled the Road (Works, Use and Compensation) Bill 1982 has now been drafted and agreed between concerned departments. It is to be discussed by Executive Council on 9th February 1982.
