Expansion Programme

To make appropriate arrangements for the Open College which the University of East Asia proposes to establish.

To ensure that the approved secondary schools building programme proceeds on schedule.

The Open College of the University of East Asia has made a formal application to register, under the Education Ordinance, as an institution offering post-secondary courses. The College intends to offer part-time degree courses patterned on U.K.'s Open University course material leading to degrees awarded by the University of East Asia. The Board of Education and the University and Polytechnic Grants Committee have tendered their views on the application.

The Schools Building Review Committee met on 22 April 1982 and the Schools Building Programme is being revised to take account of progress on school development. Discussion is being held with PWD, ED and FB to reconsider the procedures governing school building with a view to streamlining progress and minimizing slippage.

To seek the advice of ExCo on whether the application should be approved.

To examine possible modifications to the procedures for building schools.
