9. Language in Education
Purpose
To strengthen the teaching of language in schools, and to review the policy on the language of instruction in secondary schools.
10. Reorganisation of
Technical Education and Industrial ́ Training
To strengthen the organisational framework for technical education and industrial training and to achieve better integration between them.
(a)
Progress made and present position
The Working Party to establish the Chinese Language Foundation has submitted its report in late March 82. Action is in hand to prepare a memorandum to present the recommendations of the Working Party to ExCo.
(b) The recruitment of specialist staff
for the Institute of Language in Education (ILE) has been pursued both locally and overseas (U.K. and Singapore). Accommodation has been leased for the ILE at Park- In Commercial Centre, Kowloon, and preparation for fitting out is in hand for the premises to be available by mid-August 82.
(a)
The Vocational Training Council (VTC) was appointed in February 82 and they have decided on the structure of the Committees of the Council and of the subordinate Training Boards and General Committees. Nominations to the Boards and Committees are being sought from the industries and professional bodies.
(b) The Technical Education and e Industrial Training Department was established on 1 April 82.
