Progress made and present position

(a) Comments are awaited from the

Supplementary Medical Professions Council, relevant professional Board on the draft Medical Laboratory Technicians (Registration and Disciplinary Procedures) Regulations.

(b) The Co-ordinating Committee on Para-medical Training held its first meeting on 14 April 1982.

Drafting instructions have been completed and drafting approval given for the display of health warnings and tar group ratings on cigarette packets and in advertisements. Legislative proposals for no-smoking areas in in public transport and enclosed public places are also being processed.

On 23 March 1982 the Governor-in- Council agreed in principle that legislation should be drafted to control the optical profession and that an approach should be made to the University & Folytechnic Grants Committee and the Vocational Training Council as to how training needs should be met. Action on legislation and consultation on training being initiated.

Next quarter target

To finalise drafting instructions for the Regulations of the other para-medical professions.

To monitor progress

To prepare draft legislation and complete legislative action.

To consult UPGC and VTC and to draft necessary legislation.

To carry out a compre- hensive review of the Ordinance and make recommendations to rectify any deficiencies.
