"District Administration

in Hong Kong".

To conduct Urban Council (1)

and District Boards elections as envisaged in the White Paper, i.e under a broad franchise and constituency

arrangements.

District Boards

(i) elections in the

New Territories

were held on

4 March 1982;

(ii) elections in the

urban areas are

due in September 1982.

Urban Council

Elections are scheduled

for March 1983.

The New Territories District Board elections were held successfully on 4 March 1982. There were 172 candidates contesting 54 seats.

(In addition, there were 2 candidates who were elected

unopposed.) Altogether 122 polling stations were set up and 97,788 electors turned out to vote (representing about 51% of the

total electorate).

Action completed.

Registration of electors in prepar- ation for the urban areas District Board elections in September took place between 19 March and 30 April 1982. About 750,000 applications for registration have been received (representing 37.5% of the potential electorate).
