To regulate the mariculture industry
To provide purpose-built wholesale marketing facilities for fresh foods.
Twenty-four areas within the waters of Hong Kong were gazetted as fish culture zones on 9 July. ExCo approved proposals for implementing the Ordinance which will involve territory-wide clearances to be co- ordinated by RS (NT).
(a) In May, the Lands
and Works Conference decided in favour of residential overhead development for the proposed Western Market,
(subject to careful design to reduce
the environmental
impact of the market operations) and
overhead warehouse development for
the proposed Cheung
Sha Wan market.
(b) On 9th July the Land
Development Policy Committee, decided
on environmental grounds that over- head warehousing development was more compatible with
wholesale markets.
To demarcate the gazetted fish culture zones, to explain the provisions of the Ordinance to existing mariculturists and to consider applications for licences.
