To regulate the mariculture industry

To provide purpose-built wholesale marketing facilities for fresh foods.

Twenty-four areas within the waters of Hong Kong were gazetted as fish culture zones on 9 July. ExCo approved proposals for implementing the Ordinance which will involve territory-wide clearances to be co- ordinated by RS (NT).

(a) In May, the Lands

and Works Conference decided in favour of residential overhead development for the proposed Western Market,

(subject to careful design to reduce

the environmental

impact of the market operations) and

overhead warehouse development for

the proposed Cheung

Sha Wan market.

(b) On 9th July the Land

Development Policy Committee, decided

on environmental grounds that over- head warehousing development was more compatible with

wholesale markets.

To demarcate the gazetted fish culture zones, to explain the provisions of the Ordinance to existing mariculturists and to consider applications for licences.
