KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent, Post- Sunday, (CANA)

masters and other senior postal officials from 13. English-speaking Caribbean countries have ended a four- day meeting in St. Vincent calling on the area's authorities to take “positive steps" towards the establish- ment of a Caribbean Pustal Union.

They said the union would ensure more co-ordination of "the regional postal services to handle such matters as mail accounting systems and

· common postage rates.

The meeting also requested the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to continue to organisu. training programines and to%. provide consultancy services for the region.

They called for the in-.. tensifying of UPU's efforts i the area of public information to highlight the role played by, pektal serviees, in, the economic, social and cultural development of the countries of the Caribbean.

The postal officials said they had also agreed on steps to be taken to overcome the ob stacles facing the postal services of the region.

Delegates to the four-day meeting came from Anguilla. Antigua, the Bahamas, Barbados, Grand Caymanı, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Montserrat, St Lucia, Tortola, Trinidad and Tobago, and St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

The Caribbean Community (CARICOM) Secretariat and the UPU were also represented at the meeting
