INSTRUCTIONS TO PARLIAMENTARY COUNSEL

ELECTRICITY AND NUCLEAR INSTALLATIONS (AMENDMENTS

These Instructions deal with three entirely separate matters and are

therefore divided into three parts as follows.

Part I

Amendment of Electricity Legislation to allow the

supply of privately generated electricity as a main

business and associated matters;

Part II

Amendment of the Nuclear Installations Act 1965 to change

the limits on the liability of the operators of nuclear

installations, to make other amendments to enable the UK to

ratify protocols to two Conventions and to make some other

minor amendments.

Part III

Repeal of some powers of entry and the consolidation or

amendment of some others.

Part IV

The repeal of a provision requiring the Secretary of State to

lay an annual report of his activities in relation to the

electricity industry before Parliament.

Authority to send them was given by the Lord President of the Council

in a letter dated 29 April 1982. Policy approval is dealt with

separately in each Part.
