AMENDMENT OF THE NUCLEAR INSTALLATIONS ACT 1965
As you know we are currently involved in the amendment of the Nuclear Installations Act 1965 and we have already discussed a number of issucs relating to the FCO at our meeting on 8 September.

There is, however, one further point which I should like to draw to your attention. This concerns section 28 of the Act which relates to the extension of the Act to the Channel Isles, Isle of Man and other Dependent Territories. As you will see from paras 61 - 65 (copy attached) of our Instructions to Parliamentary Counsel, parts of the Act have already been extended to a number of Dependent Territories. This was, we understand, dealt with by the FCO. It now seems likely that the power in section 28 will also apply to the proposed amendments and you may therefore wish to consider whether the amendments should also be extended to the various Dependent Terriorities. In view of your interest we have not considered which parts of the Act have been extended to the various territories and how the present proposals will affect them.
We are in touch with the Home Office on the extension of the amend- ments to the Channel Islands and Isle of Man.
