PITCAIRN
ESSENTIAL FACTS
1.
Pitcairn is our last remaining Dependent territory in the
Pacific.
2. It has very small population (around 50).
3.
Pitcairn is governed from Wellington (our High Commissioner
there is also Governor of Pitcairn) and administered through
a Commissioner in Auckland. Internal affairs are handled by
an 11-member Island Council which consists of both elected and
nominated representatives.
4. House of Lords on 9 March debated future general development
of Pitcairn, but did not consider question of future status.
Further Lords PQ put down for answer on 19 July, on Governor's
recent visit to Pitcairn. His report has not yet reached us.
