I am directed by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to confirm that Her Majesty The Queen has been pleased to approve your appointment as Governor, British Virgin Islands, in succession to Mr W W Wallace CVO CBE DSC.
Subject to the exigencies of the Service the appointment is expected to be for a period of three years' resident service with leave after eighteen months.
Separate arrangements are being made for you to receive your Commission.
During the appointment you will be on secondment from the Diplomatic Service. However you will continue to receive your Diplomatic Service salary and to be subject to the general terms and conditions prescribed for Diplomatic Service appointments by Diplomatic Service Regulations as amended from time to time. Arrangements will also be made for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office to pay into your United Kingdom bank account all the Diplomatic Service allowances for which you will be eligible. The transfer of funds from the United Kingdom to the British. Virgin Islands will however be your personal responsibility.
Your allowances are in the process of being calculated and a further letter will be sent to you as soon as possible to let you know the figures.
