is normally restricted to the vehicle for which outward freight was paid unless the car was purchased in Hong Kong and no freight charges were met, or the car is a bona fide replacement generally similar to one on which freight to the territory was met from public

funds.

15. The cost of car freightage between two Dependent Territories may exceptionally be met by HMG if a Governor were being appointed to a further Governorship, but Personnel Services Department should

be consulted before any arrangements are made. The rule in 4(b) above, regarding age of vehicle, would apply.

UK IMPORT REGULATIONS

16. A Governor is himself responsible for paying all import duties

or taxes which may arise if he imports a vehicle into the UK (whether at public or his own expense). Queries should be taken up

by a Governor direct with HM Customs and Excise at Kings Beam House,

Mark Lane, London EC3.

17.

It is regretted that Governors relinquishing their appointment

are no longer entitled to duty free entry into the UK for the unconsumed portion of their cellars.

GENERAL

18. Leave Passages for Governors and their Dependents

Responsibility for leave passages for the Governor and his family

during his term of office rests with the Hong Kong Government.

PASSAGES FOR DUTY VISITS TO UK

19. The Hong Kong Government is expected to meet the cost of a duty

or consultation visit to UK. If there is some doubt as to whether it would be appropriate for the Hong Kong Government to pay in a particular instance, the geographical Department should be consulted well in advance. Such requests will be considered by the geographical Department in consultation with Personnel Services
